The Sudanese conflict between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has resulted in countless civilian deaths and suffering, deeply worries the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Francisca Omaluyi stated in a statement that “the non-adherence of the warring parties to numerous international calls for a ceasefire has worsened the situation of civilians and made it impossible to embark on their evacuation.” Nigeria thus reiterates the urgent need for a ceasefire to take effect right away.

The Nigerian Embassy in Khartoum has officially requested permission from the Sudanese authorities to evacuate Nigerian students and other community members who may want to leave the country. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in contact with the Sudanese authorities in the interim.

For the students and other Nigerians in Sudan, the Nigerian Embassy has also established WhatsApp and Telegram platforms in order to facilitate proper coordination and consistent updates. Those who are Nigerian citizens in the nation are advised to stay inside and call the Embassy at any of the following numbers: +249 90 765 0702, +234 803 698 1824, +249 90 132 5359, or +249 92 440 1217, the statement continued.
