President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that the combined opposition was a victim of overconfidence in the most recent elections, despite the fact that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was working hard to retain power in those elections.

According to a statement released by the President’s Spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, the President made this statement on Thursday when he received members of the Progressive Governors Forum, led by their Chairman, Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi. The meeting took place at the President’s residence in the State House.

As a result, the incumbent president pointed the finger of blame at the opposition party’s arrogance as the primary reason for their defeat in the presidential election.

According to what he had to say, “They were already telling their foreign backers that they would defeat the APC.” We maintained a healthy balance of self-assurance and caution within our party, and as a result, we were successful.

“Right now, their arrogance is causing more difficulties for the competition than anything or anyone else.”

“They are having a hard time convincing those who supported them from the outside why they are unable to beat us, and it is making it difficult for them to do so.”

They lost because they were overconfident, they became complacent, and they made poor tactical moves. It’s as simple as that. Because of this, there are now even more issues in their camp. Why wasn’t it possible for them to get rid of us?

In response to a question posed by Bagudu, the leader of the Forum, President Buhari made the following statement:

“One of the primary reasons why I want to offer my congratulations to Asiwaju on their victory is due to the fact that their competitors received encouragement and backing from third parties, which gave them a false sense of hope and allowed them to give the impression that they were going to triumph over us. “How much more incorrect could anyone possibly be?” he questioned.

The president urged the progressive governors to band together and discuss their differences among themselves in an open and honest manner.

“Make an effort to keep finding solutions to problems. Have the courage to talk about them in an open and honest manner among yourselves. This is the most effective strategy for avoiding political death in Nigeria.

“You (Governors) have a programme to meet regularly and to discuss issues and how to maintain the Party nationwide,” he added. “You have a programmed meeting schedule.”

Buhari also elaborated at length on his plans for retirement, stating that he intended to spend the first six months of his retirement at his home in Daura, before ultimately relocating to Kaduna.

He thanked Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State for the infrastructure he had provided, saying that it would make life much better for him in retirement as well as for the people of the state, and he added that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State had also done the same thing.

According to the Chairman, Atiku Bagudu, the purpose of the visit was ostensibly to wish the President a “Happy Sallah” and to express gratitude for the leadership that he had provided to both the party and the country.

Since this was their first visit to the President’s office since the election, they extended their congratulations on the Party’s success in the Presidential Polls, telling him:

“Congratulations, your party has won the presidency, a majority in the Senate, and the position of leading Party in the House of Representatives,” said the speaker of the House.

“Without your assistance, we would not have been able to achieve these victories.

“You will be remembered favourably by history. Because of the turmoil that has been caused in the region and in the developing world as a direct result of your leadership, the election is being celebrated in many different parts of the world.

“You have always encouraged us to put in a lot of effort, and that’s exactly how we won this competition. We are extremely grateful to you for everything that you have done,” he continued.
