To remove all apparent obstacles impeding tourism, the Lagos State Government is working to strengthen bilateral ties with the Republic of Benin.
A meeting between the Minister for Tourism, Culture, and the Arts of the Republic of Benin, Mr. Babalola Abimbola, and the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, took place in Cotonou as a result of the move, according to a statement released by the state on Tuesday.
The statement claims that the commissioner emphasised the value of the partnership between Lagos and Benin, claiming that it had become crucial in the field of tourism due to the close proximity of the tourist destinations in Lagos to those in Benin.

According to the statement, among other things, “Akinbile-Yusuf also used the opportunity to inform her host of the numerous achievements of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration in tourism, arts, and culture that have changed the narrative of tourism in Lagos and established the state as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Africa. These achievements include the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History and the Vlekete Slave Market Museum.
The Benin Republic’s Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Arts, Mr. Babalola Jean-Michelle Abimbola, welcomed the delegation and declared that it was time to strengthen ties between the two nations on the tourism and cultural fronts and that Lagos had a significant role to play in making this happen.
Along with other participants, Mr. Thomas Adeyanju, the Consul-General of the Benin Republic in Nigeria, attended the meeting.
