According to the Centre for World University Rankings, Ahmadu Bello University, University of Ibadan, University of Nigeria, and University of Lagos are among the top universities in the world.
The list, which was posted on the international organization’s website on Monday, showed that 20,531 universities had been ranked, with 2,000 making the global list.
Nigeria’s Unibadan was ranked first overall and in position 1,163 globally.
UNN came in second place overall and 1,784th place in Nigeria.
ABU was ranked fourth nationally and ranked 1,881st globally, while UNILAG was ranked third in Nigeria and 1,875th overall.
According to the ranking, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, and University of Oxford, United Kingdom, are the top five universities in the world.
As a result, the rankings were determined by faculty, research, employability, and educational standing.

While it is encouraging to see Nigeria improving in the rankings, funding to further promote the growth and reputation of Nigeria’s higher education system is essential if the nation aspires to be more competitive on the international stage, according to Dr. Nadin Mahassen, president of the Center for World University Rankings. To ensure that Nigeria attracts top academics and students, that rising enrollment at universities coincides with rising teaching capacity, and that tertiary education expenditure as a share of the national GDP steadily increases in the years to come, efforts must be made in these areas.
