The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has issued a warning that no President Muhammadu Buhari appointee who is facing any allegation of corruption should be allowed to leave Nigeria.

The CNG has also stated that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, should not be permitted to leave the country until all of the allegations that have been made against him have been proven to be false.

This information was provided by Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, CNG Spokesman, during a press briefing on Thursday in Abuja, Nigeria.

He went on to say that people with such motivations ought to be considered enemies of the state and should be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the law that is in place in the country.

Suleiman has been quoted as saying, “We demand that when the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari bows out of office, all key office holders must be asked to clear themselves of all pending corruption and other allegations against them.”

The CNG insisted, in particular, that the CBN Governor must be made to give account of his tenure to the incoming administration. The CNG also stated that, in the interest of a peaceful transfer of power, accountability, and good governance, any study leave that had been approved for Emefiele or any other suspected official should be canceled.

The CNG made the observation that just recently, specifically on Monday, May 15, 2023, the Nigeria Police headquarters confirmed that plans to scuttle the May 29th official inauguration of the new administration of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and governors at the state level were real. The Nigeria Police headquarters made this confirmation.

According to Suleiman, the CNG demands that anyone or any group that is found to be remotely involved with the financing, direct execution, or concealing information on this sinister and diabolic scheme be treated appropriately as a treasonous felony and as an enemy of the state and fellow citizens.

The organization also requested that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, also known as the EFCC, investigate corrupt practices within all ministries, departments, and agencies under the jurisdiction of the government.

It stated that it did not agree with the purported plan to restrict the searchlight to only incoming state governors and demanded that the chairman of the EFCC carry out an all-encompassing investigation by extending the beam of the searchlight to include the presidency, federal government ministries, parastatals, and cabinet members of the incoming administration.

He went on to say that the group demanded a comprehensive investigation into allegations made against the EFCC itself, as well as an investigation into the crippling amount of debt that the previous administration had racked up for the country.
