On Tuesday, the Ogun State Police Command invited Dare Kadiri, a former deputy speaker of the House of Assembly, for blocking the gates to the Assembly complex with his vehicle.
Invading the Governor’s Office, which houses the legislative chambers, Kadiri, who had been impeached and suspended from the Assembly, blocked the Assembly’s entrances.
Witnesses claimed the troubled lawmaker sat in his car after he blocked the gates with it and wouldn’t allow anyone into the chambers.
A week after the House passed a petition calling for Kadiri’s ouster as Deputy Speaker, the Assembly member for Ijebu North Constituency 2 was found guilty of impeachable offences.
On Tuesday morning, Kadiri is alleged to have blocked the gates, causing police to arrive on the scene.
The Assembly employees were informed that they had to make their way through a different entrance into the complex due to the circumstances.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Bolanle Muritala had to intervene, according to a witness who spoke to our correspondent, to persuade Kadiri to leave the Assembly entrance.
However, the police issued an invitation to the troubled lawmaker regarding the disturbance.
The state’s police public relations officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the lawmaker’s invitation when contacted.
The man is with us, Oyeyemi said. He’s been extended an invitation from us. We’re looking into it right now. There is an investigation going on. His assertion has been made.
“We have invited the other parties to attend and provide statements; we are investigating. Any minute now, they should arrive.
When asked if the lawmaker would be freed, Oyeyemi responded, “It is a bailable offence.”
