Prior to Bola Tinubu’s inauguration as president, Mr. Omodele Ibrahim, the principal consultant for the Lagos Land Use Charge, asked the former governor of Lagos State to revive national orientation courses that will further instill patriotism among Nigerians.

Omodele, who collaborated closely with Tinubu while the latter served as governor of Lagos State, is quoted as saying that national orientation plays a significant role in fostering patriotic values around the world and is essential for Nigeria’s advancement in the community of nations.

As the country enters in a new age under Tinubu’s leadership, Omodele, a lawyer based in Lagos and the president of Epe Ogunmodede Club, said that cries for the restoration of national orientation programmes have gotten stronger.

Omodele emphasised that in a world that is becoming more interconnected, the importance of patriotism cannot be understated since it unites a varied nation, fosters a strong sense of belonging, and inspires citizens to work towards a common goal of progress.

“Orientation courses can strengthen social cohesion, encourage inclusivity, and overcome societal divides by creating a strong sense of national pride, paving the path for a more successful and unified country.

“These initiatives enable citizens to actively participate in the democratic process, contribute to the improvement of their communities, and uphold the nation’s ideals through education, engagement, and awareness campaigns.

According to him, grassroots movements, social innovation, and development initiatives from the bottom up can all be sparked by a reinvigorated dedication to civic duty and responsible citizenship.
