According to the Supreme Court, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is using social media to bully and terrorize justices.

On Friday, Justice Inyang Okoro of the Supreme Court delivered judgment in an appeal filed by the PDP seeking to void the election of President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on the grounds that his running mate, Kashim Shettima, was guilty of double nomination.

The appeal was dismissed by a five-member panel of the Supreme Court, which determined that the appellant lacked locus standi to file the suit.

Okoro ruled that the appellant attempted to mislead the apex court by claiming that the lower court had found a double nomination.

“The appellant stated to this court that the court below determined that there was indeed double nomination and that the fourth respondent knowingly allowed himself to be nominated in two constituencies,” he said.

“I have searched the entire record, including the lower court’s judgment, and there is no such finding.” It is tragic to believe that experienced senior counsel will mislead the court.

“For the sake of public policy, I must state that the fourth (Shettima) respondent withdrew from the nomination for Borno central district on July 6, 2022, as exhibited as exhibit APC 1 on page 58 of the record of appeal.”

“The political party notified INEC of its intention to withdraw on July 6, 2022.” The political party also sent a notification of dates for the conduct of new primaries for the senatorial district on July 10, 2022, and the latter letter, exhibit APC2, on page 59 of the record, contained a reference to Exhibit APC1.

“That is, as of July 6, 2022, there was no nomination of the fourth respondent for Borno central senatorial district, and there could not have been a double nomination on July 14, 2022.”

“The appellant’s use of social media to terrorize and bully the justices of the Supreme Court is appalling and unprofessional.”The appeal is dismissed because it lacks merit. I agree with the cost award in the lead judgment.”
