The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a mother and another woman for allegedly attempting to sell a nine-month-old baby.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday.

On Friday, members of the public and Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives foiled the crime, according to Hundeyin.

He claimed that the deal was discovered in the Oshodi area when one Oge Okolie, 25, who was acting as an intermediary between the baby’s mother and the prospective buyer, was arrested on suspicion of stealing the child.

“Passengers on a public bus noticed Okolie’s baby crying nonstop and wondered why she couldn’t breastfeed the child if she was the biological mother.”

“The suspect was about to be lynched when RRS operatives rushed in to save her and the baby.”

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the baby’s mother, 26-year-old Maria Ahmadu, allegedly gave her child to Oge to sell.” “As a result, the young mother was arrested,” he explained.

According to Hundeyin, the suspects and the baby have been transferred to the Command’s Gender Unit for further investigation and prosecution.
