Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, has stated that it would be “extremely weird” for him to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the President-elect. Tinubu is set to take office soon.

Additionally, Obi, speaking through his assistant Tai Obasi, refuted rumours that he was planning a demonstration in advance of today’s inauguration of the incoming President.

The rebuttal comes on the heels of rumours that the former governor of Anambra State and his Obidient movement would stage a protest close to Eagle Square to voice their displeasure with the Federal Government’s insistence on having the President-elect be inaugurated. The rumours were fueled by the fact that the former governor of Anambra State is the leader of the Obidient movement.

Obasi stated, “I have no idea where that report is getting its information. We have no information whatsoever about it, including who is organising the proposed protest. But I can state without a shadow of a doubt that my principal is completely in the dark about everything.

“He is Obi, and those who follow in his footsteps are called Obidient. I concur with you that there will be times when they will act on their own volition, regardless of how many times you tell them to remain calm. These guys are fuming with rage. They are upset about the way everything was rigged against Obi, who has provided them with so much reason for optimism. They stayed close behind him and waited for him the whole way.

When asked if his principal will be attending Tinubu’s inauguration, Obi’s aide responded by saying, “My principal is a very humble and reasonable man who is always looking for peace and unity of the country at any cost.” This was in response to reports that political parties and their presidential candidates were sent individual invitations. However, it will be very strange for him to attend a ceremony of a man whose election victory he is contesting in court. It will feel very strange for him to do so.

“My principal would never behave in such an odd and unreasonable way. I am unable to say for certain whether or not he will be invited to the swearing-in ceremony. However, I must tell you that it is impossible for you to see him in that location.
