The first group of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery classes at Edo State University, which graduated 34 students, marked another significant achievement.
Dr. Tajudeen Sanusi, the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, urged the newly inducted doctors to take their profession seriously while conducting the induction and oath-taking ceremony.
He noted that the doctors’ call to duty was a call to humanity and that they should exercise great compassion in their work.
This profession is similar to the paramilitary; there are many dos and don’ts, and the responsibility attached to it is greater than the excitement you are experiencing right now, according to Sanusi. Because we are dealing with human life, you must make sure that we don’t hurt anyone.
The registrar, however, expressed gratitude to the state government for its assistance in establishing the university’s medical school and upgrading the Auchi General Hospital into the Edo State University Teaching Hospital, which the council recognised for housemanship for aspiring physicians.
Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, the university’s vice chancellor, said in his speech that the event marks a significant turning point in Nigerian education history.
While extending his congratulations to the inductees, the VC noted that their perseverance, resilience, dedication, unwavering commitment to their studies, pursuit of knowledge, and determination to become medical professionals allowed them to finish the demanding programme in record time.
“None of this would have been possible without the outstanding instructors and trainers who have assisted and mentored these students,” he said. These students have been shaped into capable and caring medical professionals by your enthusiasm for teaching, commitment to your craft, and unwavering dedication to excellence.
“The government’s unwavering commitment to education and healthcare has paved the way for the seamless graduation of these students, and the state-of-the-art facilities provided by the government have created an environment conducive to learning, research, and innovation.”
“The induction of the MBBS class of 2022 reminds us of the immense impact these newly trained doctors will have on society. Their knowledge, compassion, and dedication to healing will undoubtedly improve health issues not only in Nigeria, but also around the world.”
