In Oyo, armed robbery suspects kill father, rape daughters

The Oyo State Police Command paraded 21 suspected armed robbers on Friday, including a group that is suspected of killing a middle-aged man named Makanjuola Ogedengbe and raping his two daughters in the state’s Apaatuku/Onireke village, Akobo, in the Lagelu Local Government area.

The ages of the victims were 14 and 10, respectively.

Adewale Osifeso, the public information officer for the Oyo State Police, said the suspects were providing the police with useful information as he paraded them at the command’s headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.

According to Osifeso, the suspects, who were armed with lethal weapons, broke into the neighbourhood on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at around two in the morning, robbing locals of their valuables while shooting the deceased at close range.

According to him, on May 14, 2023, at around 4:00 a.m., a group of armed robbers broke into the Apaatuku/Onireke at Akobo area of Ibadan and stole valuables from the locals. During the attack, two assailants raped Makanjuola Ogedengbe’s daughters, who were 14 and 10 years old, respectively, and killed him.

“The State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, received the case for a covert investigation. Investigation led to the discovery that the same gang that broke into the Apaatuku/Onireke community was represented by Ibrahim Rasaq’m’ (31), Abiodun Olalekan’m’ (32), and Abolade Morenikeji’m’ (34), who had previously been detained in connection with the armed robbery operation at Sawia Estate at Ogbere in Ibadan, which was reported on April 16, 2023.

“Abolade Morenikeji’m’ and one Sodiq’m’ are accused of sexually assaulting the deceased’s two daughters, respectively. The community security guards engaged in the operation and killed the aforementioned Sodiq, the alleged leader of the group. The night guard for the neighbourhood, who is currently receiving medical attention, was also shot by the assailants.

“One Adebayo Salami’m’, a major receiver/informant of the group and landlord at Ajara Olohunda, Akobo in Ibadan, was arrested in connection with the case on June 16 2023 at around 03300hrs.

“During questioning, he admitted to having invited the group for the robbery operation at the Apaatuku area where one Makanjuola Ogedengbe “m” was killed and his two daughters, aged 14 and 10, were deflowered by the robbery gang during the operation,” the police report states.

Other suspects for crimes like attempted murder, armed robbery, illegal gun possession, and items thought to be made of Indian hemp were also paraded by the police.
