The death of two-year-old Ivan Omhonrina by a stray bullet during an operation by agency officers at Okpanam in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State has been the subject of a prompt and thorough investigation order from President Bola Tinubu to the management of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The president asked that anyone found guilty in the event be punished, according to a statement made on Tuesday by Dele Alake, Special Adviser to the President (Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy).

He urged security personnel to perform their activities with greater professionalism and caution in order to protect the lives of uninvolved Nigerians.

Upon learning of Ivan’s passing, President Tinubu voiced his sorrow, saying: “I grieve the death of little Ivan Omhonrina and sympathise with his parents for the horrible experience of losing an innocent kid in a most awful manner.

Ivan did not merit that kind of death. We must make sure that the affair did not come to that and that no one else experiences what Ivan did.

Eronmonsele, who apparently suffered injuries in that sad incident, is also in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

It’s unacceptable what happened there. We need to find out who caused the Omhonrinas’ pain and make sure they are held accountable.
