Eight out of the eleven elected council members of Kano State’s Nassarawa Local Government overwhelmingly terminated Lawal Shuaibu Aranfoso as council chairman for reportedly leasing the locality’s revenue section to a friend.

Other accusations against the chairman include his complete disregard for the local government while pursuing his own interests in Abuja and other locations, which caused the secretariat to deteriorate into a shell of what it once was.

The chairman had abandoned the local government after his election, according to a councillor who spoke on behalf of the other parliamentarians but who wished to remain anonymous.

He claimed that throughout their inquiry, they found evidence of the council leasing out many revenue-generating areas to the chairman’s friends without the knowledge of the other council members.

A closer look at the local government, which was once a centre of income-generating businesses and social services, reveals a dismal state of affairs, he continued.

The amount of revenue that has been lost as a result of his pals being improperly granted collection rights will be determined by a high-powered investigating team, he said.

He said, “We are also taking all necessary steps to support the people of Nassarawa, who are in urgent need of our assistance.”

All attempts to contact the suspended chairman—including texting him—were unsuccessful because he wouldn’t answer any questions.
