Four men, Adenuga, Ogunsanwo, Adebayo, Oluwasegun arraigned for assault

Tuesday saw the arraignment of four individuals before Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun of the Yaba Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly shooting and injuring one Abbass Raufu on his right shoulder during an altercation over disputed land.

Five counts of assault, forcible entering, and threat to life were brought against the defendants, Kazeem Adenuga, Adeolu Ogunsanwo, Ahmed Adebayo, and Moses Oluwasegun.

Rita Momoh, the prosecution, claimed that the defendants went to Raufu equipped with firearms and shot him in the right shoulder.

Momoh stated that the offences violated Section 170(1)(b) and were subject to penalties under Sections 412, 53, 52, 173, and 50 of the Lagos State Criminal Law from 2015.

The charge read in part, “That you, Adenuga Kazeem Adenuga, Adeolu Ogunsanwo, Ahmed Adebayo, Moses Oluwasegun and others at large, on November 4, 2023, at Ijoyin area, Epe, Lagos, in Lagos Magisterial District did forcibly enter into landed property at Ijoyin area, Epe, Lagos, which ownership is in dispute pending before the Court and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 52 of Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

However, the accused entered a not guilty plea.

The defendants entered a not-guilty plea, and the magistrate then issued an order that the defendants remain in police custody while the police make a copy of the case and transmit it to the DPP for legal counsel.
