The Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi State Command has once more seized 371 parcels of Cannabis sativa, also known as Indian hemp, and 98 packs of diazepam as part of its efforts to sanitize drug use.
The command also seized 10 sacks of snuff, 1080 pieces of donkey skin, 37 bags of foreign rice, 16 bales of used clothing, 300 liters of petroleum motor spirits, and a Toyota Corolla car as a mode of transportation in addition to the other items listed above.
When handing over the drugs to the state commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Usman Suleiman, the commander of the Kebbi State command of the Nigerian Customs Service, Dr. Ben Oramalugo, stated that the drugs were worth only ninety four million, eight hundred and fifty four thousand, four hundred and nine naira.
He said, “Recall that ten days ago, precisely on August 14, 2023, during our last press briefing, we vowed that from now on, smugglers in Kebbi command would not have a free pass, especially those who smuggle drugs and other items harmful to our health and the country’s economy.
Because we had reliable information about their upcoming activities, we instructed our officers to increase surveillance in all the state’s hidden corners.
One hundred sixty-four million, eight hundred and fifteen thousand, six hundred and twenty nine naira is the duty paid value of the items that were seized.
The CAC expressed sympathy to the families of the two members of his staff who died on Thursday along the Bunza-Koko-Dakingari road earlier in his remarks.
“This sad incident, though regrettable, won’t stop us or lower the spirits of the command’s officers and men.
To stop the threat of drug smuggling in the state, we will continue to step up our efforts and collaborate with all pertinent agencies.
