The Acting Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has asked all Chairmen, Councillors, and elected officials of the state’s Local Government Areas to quit their positions.

According to this platform, the order comes after their tenure expires on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

In a statement published by his spokesperson, Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson, the acting governor thanked local government officials while admonishing them to transfer over correctly.

The Aiyedatiwa decree will be issued approximately six months before the state’s local government elections.

The council election was originally slated for December of this year, but had to be moved to February of 2024.

The acting governor stated in the announcement, “The constitutional tenure of the elected Chairmen and Councillors of Local Governments in Ondo State ends today, 30th August 2023.”

“This implies that all Chairmen and Councillors would vacate their respective offices and hand over administration of the Local Governments.”

“In light of the foregoing, and in order to avoid a vacuum, the Acting Governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has directed the Heads of Local Government Administration in the eighteen (18) Local Governments across the State to take charge of the administration of the Local Governments immediately, pending further directives from the State Government.”
