The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, has claimed that frivolous court rulings are to blame for its failure to successfully prosecute corruption cases.

The anti-corruption organisation lamented its inability to obtain convictions in corruption cases, including high-profile ones.

During a press conference with journalists in Kaduna State, EFCC spokesperson Wilson Uwajaren said this.

Uwajaren outlined a few of the difficulties preventing the prompt prosecution of corruption cases and the obtaining of convictions.

He claimed that the losses were caused, among other things, by arbitrary adjournments of corruption cases and frivolous court rulings based on technicalities rather than the truth and the interests of the nation.

In 2022, he continued, the commission obtained nearly 7,700 convictions nationwide.
