The state governor of Benue, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, amended the rotational principle within its immediate vicinity, which has drawn the ire of a group known as the “Tombo Coalition” in Benue.

In a statement released on Tuesday and provided to newsmen in Makurdi, the group’s leader, Elder Saawuan Tyokyaa, made this claim.

Tyokyaa observed that there had been a trend of shifting political appointees since the election of the current political administration, but that the governor Alia government at the time had carelessly abandoned it.The commissioners from the Tombo clan have only ever been chosen from the Mbaakyaa and Mbakyongo council wards, according to an unbreakable pattern that has remained since the advent of democratic governance in 1999, he claimed.

The Tombo Coalition is a powerful voice against the governor’s current wrongdoings and boldly addresses the historical injustices that we have all suffered.

“His broken promises and faulty judgment have betrayed the Tombo people, who had once looked to him for guidance. Governor Alia has, with a single stroke of his pen, disregarded the APC’s long-held commitment to the ideals of equity and fairness.

The basic pillars that our great party, the APC, rests on—equity, fairness, and the honor of respecting party agreements—have been deliberately undermined.

According to Tyokyaa, the Tombo people of the state’s Buruku local government region protested the governor’s decision to reject Dr. Kaalu Akerkpev, one of their sons, who had been nominated for a position as commissioner before but had since been removed.
“This appointment, an unequivocal entitlement, has been summarily rejected by Governor Alia, dealing a painful blow to party principles and displaying a startling disregard for the painstakingly balanced distribution of roles,” the statement reads.

You might remember that on Tuesday, Governor Alia swore in 17 Commissioners and 23 Special Advisers.
