Following the catastrophic failure of Nigeria’s energy grid early Thursday morning, there is widespread blackout across the country.
According to reports, the grid completely failed about 12:40 a.m. on September 14, 2023, resulting in a massive loss of supplies to power distributors nationwide.
On Thursday morning, many sources in the power sector, as well as electricity distribution businesses, verified the situation to our correspondent.
On Thursday, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc issued a warning headed “warning of Total System Collapse.”
“The EEDC desires to warn her esteemed clients of a comprehensive system breakdown that occurred at 12:40 am today, September 14, 2023,” said the notification.
“As a result, the network is currently experiencing supply disruptions.” As a result of this situation, all of our interface TCN (Transmission Company of Nigeria) stations are out of operation, and we are unable to serve our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states.
“We are on alert, expecting precise information from the National Control Centre, Osogbo, on the supply breakdown and restoration.”
Emeka Ezeh, EEDC’s Head of Corporate Communications, signed the notice.
The TCN, which administers Nigeria’s grid, has yet to issue a statement on the situation.
About a week ago, the transmission company celebrated 400 days of electrical grid stability in Nigeria, claiming that the grid had not collapsed during that time.
