A camp that was alleged to belong to the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra was raided by members of the police, military, and officials from the Department of State Service in Ebonyi state. The camp was located in Eke-agbebor Isu, which is located in the Onicha Local Government Area.
This information was communicated to the public through a press statement that was distributed on Thursday in Abakaliki by the Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya.
Onovwakpoyeya said that the group was responsible for the destruction of a shrine that was located within the IPOB camp.
“On September 13, acting on reliable and actionable intelligence, tactical team operatives of the Command attacked an IPOB/ESN camp at Eke-agbebor Isu in Onicha LGA of Ebonyi state as part of a joint operation with the military and the DSS.
“While others managed to flee with varying degrees of bullet wounds, one of the IPOB/ESN members was shot and critically injured.”
However, two more people were taken into custody. “These individuals are Emmanuel Chinedu’m’, also known as Patho, and Paul Ani’m’, also known as Osah, both of whom are 38 years old,” the PPRO added.
Another member of IPOB was taken into custody on September 14 by citizens of the Agba village, which is located in the Ishielu local government area of the state, according to Onovwakpoyeya. This was another recent incident.
She stated that the culprit was apprehended as he attempted to depart the community and that he was turned over to the police.
She claimed that the Commissioner of Police was using this occasion to appeal to all hospitals, traditional medicine houses, chemists, and all inhabitants of Ebonyi to report anyone seeking medical attention with gunshot wound injuries to the nearest police station. “The Commissioner of Police is using this opportunity to appeal to all hospitals, traditional medicine homes, and chemists,” she said.
