On Sunday morning, a newborn baby that had been abandoned on a farm in the Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State was found to still be alive.

A farmer who was working on his field made the discovery of the infant boy when he was inside a box. The farmer immediately informed the village head of Wurya in Gwaram Tsohuwa about the incident.

According to Alhaji Tamaji Gwaram, the chairman of Gwaram Local Government’s personal assistant, the newborn was initially delivered to the Divisional Police Officer of Gwaram Local Government, and then he was transferred to the hospital, where it was confirmed that he was in good health. Both of these events took place in quick succession.

He asserts that after the child was handed back to Zaharaddeen Abubakar, the chairman of the local government, Abubakar immediately requested that a woman who would be able to care for the child be located as soon as possible.

Rukayya Aliyu volunteered to take care of the child, and her husband, Malam Aminu Abdul-Hamid, the district chief of Wurya, gave his blessing for the arrangement.

After that, the baby was given the name Zaharadden in recognition of the LGA chairman, and Aminu was named after the new family, giving him the complete name of Zaharaddeen Aminu Gwaram.

Alhaji Tamaji Gwaram disclosed that the local government chairman also committed to pay a monthly allowance for the caretaker, at the very least until the conclusion of his tenure as the chairman of the Gwaram Local Government Area. This was in addition to giving other forms of assistance that were required.
