On Sunday night, a group of gunmen broke into Matthew Abo’s home in Benue State, the commissioner of information, culture, and tourism, and took him hostage.
According to reports, the event happened at his rural Zaki Biam residence in the state’s Ukum Local Government Area at around 8:00 p.m.
The shooters reportedly entered the commissioner’s living room on four motorcycles while he and his family were inside the house.
An eyewitness described how the kidnappers arrived on four motorbikes, told the commissioner’s wife and kids to lie face down, and then rode out on one of the motorcycles to take him to an unidentified location.
The commissioner was compelled by his kidnappers to sit behind a motorcycle rider, with a gunman positioned between them.
Governor Hyacinth Alia swore in 17 commissioners, including Abo, on August 29, 2023.
Kula Tersoo, the governor’s chief press secretary, verified the commissioner’s kidnapping.
Indeed, he was abducted, he mentioned. Unfortunately, on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at around 8:00 p.m., he was abducted from his rural house in Ukum LGA.
“When the armed men entered, he was at home with his family, his kids, and his people. Then they made him ride a bike.
“We have learned of the regrettable event, and His Excellency, Governor Hyacinth Alia, has already instructed and briefed the security personnel to guarantee his safe escape from the den of kidnappers.”
