The Nigerian Army declared on Monday that it will not tolerate any kind of money theft and that it firmly opposes any action that could lower unit morale.

Reports of corruption and misappropriation of troops’ Ration Cash Allowance (RCA) by Nigerian Army troops stationed to protect Chinese workers at the ongoing Zungeru Hydro Electricity Dam Project in Niger state were refuted by the Army as incorrect.

Contrary to the implication in the online report, preliminary investigation revealed that troops deployed at the Chinese Company in Niger State have always been paid in tranches by the NA upon receipt of the funds from the institution concerned, according to a statement by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relations.

The notification states that as of February 28, 2023, the last tranche payment of RCA for the deployed troops by the impacted institution expired. As the subsequent payment tranche is being handled,

“In an effort to improve the troops’ living conditions and maintain them on par with deployments elsewhere, Army Headquarters has paid the troops for the period of 1 March – 30 June 2023.” The declaration stated

He states that daily food provisions for the troops were made as a routine measure to mitigate the impact of the tranche style of payment.

“Therefore, contrary to what is falsely stated, none of the senior officers named in the publication or anyone else diverted the troops’ RCA.” It stated

“To transform the NA into a well-trained, equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment” is the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy, and he stated that the NA remained committed to upholding integrity, transparency and accountability in the administration of the welfare of troops in all its operations and other endeavors.

It stated that the NA values maintaining the welfare and well-being of its employees and that doing so has a favorable effect on their morale in general.
