The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has accused Governor Yahaya Bello of instigating attacks on SDP members ahead of the Kogi State governorship race.

According to ProbitasNews, SDP flagbearer Muritala Yakubu Ajaka is considered one of the main candidates in the governorship election.

Isaiah Davies Ibele, Director General, New Media, Muri/Sam Campaign Council, addressed a news conference in Lokoja on Wednesday, pleading on President Bola Tinubu, security agencies, and the international community to summon Bello.
Noting that the security situation in Kogi State is deteriorating, the SDP chieftain said, “Are we talking about percentage salaries our workers have been receiving in Kogi State for more than seven years under Bello’s administration?”

“He is using his position as Chairman of the Local Government to oppress and attack our supporters.” The international community should come to our rescue because the SDP will not be intimidated by this evil government led by Governor Bello, whose track record includes lousy leadership, thuggery, oppression, and underperformance.”

He challenged APC governorship candidate Usman Ahmed Ododo to a live debate, claiming that Kogites have decided to oust the incumbent party.

Sheikh Ibrahim, an SDP leader, also spoke, saying, “We can no longer sleep with our two eyes closed.” Our supporters are being attacked and killed in Lokoja, Ankpa, Ugwolawo, Oforachi, Dekina Town, Umomi, Emewe Opada, and other places of Kogi East.

“Yahaya Bello’s worst is better than the successor he is bringing now.” We do not live in a banana republic. We can’t keep leaving in terror in our current position.

“A man who can’t pay his employees, secure his people, and has made Lokoja the worst state capital is unfit to bring a candidate who will exacerbate Kogites’ problems.”

“An election is not a war.” It is what you have and what you promote. Kogites have determined that Muritala Yakubu Ajaka is all they desire.”

In response to the charges, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, stated that the government’s top objective is to protect all Kogi State residents, regardless of political affiliation.

“Allegations without proof are as good as no allegations,” Fanwo stated. As a government, our concern and job is to establish an environment that allows everyone to go about their daily business.

“The SDP is a nest of funny birds that cry because of the pain of their losses rather than because of anyone’s action.” We will not praise them, nor will we be drawn into their frivolities, blatant lies, and lack of direction.”
