Some members of the pro-Biafra Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) have been arrested in Anambra State.
According to a news release made accessible to media, the police arrested members of the organisation, including Beka Udemefuna, 66, and Mr Amauche Ode, 53.
It was also claimed that the police took portraits of Biafra leader Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and group leader Chief Ralph Uwazurike.
According to a press release issued by Senior Special Assistant to BIM-MASSOB leader, Chief Chris Mocha, plastic seats belonging to BIM-MASSOB, as well as other properties, were taken away.
The arrest was made on Tuesday at the group’s regional office along the Awkuzu-Otuocha route in Ifitedunu, in the Dunukofia council area, while the victims were transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department CID annexe in Awkuzu.
“The members of BIM-MASSOB were seated in the office at Ifitedunu when heavily armed policemen numbering over five arrived at the office in the evening and shot sporadically into the air, causing people living around the area to flee for their safety,” according to the statement.
“The arrested members were handcuffed, Ojukwu and Uwazuruike’s enlargement photographs and 16 plastic chairs were taken away to Awkuzu, Anambra State”
The group demanded the men’s release, claiming that the members were quite peaceful and did not pose a security risk to the state.
When reached, the state police public relations officer, PPRO, Tochukwu Ikenga, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, stated, “Thank you for the information.”
