To revive and renovate national museums and other sites around the State, the Abia State administration has made a firm decision to work with the federal government.
A Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on tourism and entertainment, Martins Okey Justice, informed the governor of Abia State of the development.
The State government’s intention to revitalize the industry was conveyed by the SSA during a courtesy visit to Professor Abba Tijani, Director-General of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM), at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The decaying old Eastern Nigeria Administrative Building, sometimes referred to as Ojukwu Bunker, was specifically mentioned by Martins, who was greeted on behalf of the NCMM D-G by Mr. Abdul Gimba, the Director of Museums, and other management personnel.
Along with Ojukwu Bunker, he added, the Abia State government will renovate other significant NCMM sites located inside the State to turn them into world-class tourism destinations.
The state’s hospitality and tourism industry will drive the state’s economic development over the next two years, according to Martins, who also stated that governor Alex Otti has given him the go-ahead to oversee a comprehensive overhaul of the industry to reposition it for employment opportunities and tourist attraction.
As the SSA noted, Governor Alex Otti was deeply committed to promoting all of the State’s tourism attractions, and the State administration thanked the federal government for showing interest in the suggested plans for museum refurbishment.
In Umuahia North LGA, two of the state’s most popular tourist destinations are Ojukwu Bunker, which is situated in Afara, and the National War Museum, which is located at Amafor Isingwu.
