An E-hailing driver was shot by gunmen who are thought to be car snatchers, and his vehicle was apparently taken in the Rumuokalabo neighborhood of Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

This occurred just 48 hours after state police commissioner Emeka Nwonyi displayed five accused auto snatchers—some of whom had taken Bolt drivers’ cars—arrested in various sections of the state.

As he approached the D/Line neighborhood of the city, an eyewitness reported hearing noises coming from a car, sounding like fighting.

The event happened at Rumuokalagbor on Monday at around 10:12 p.m., according to the source, who begged to remain anonymous.
“Upon closer inspection, I observed that two men—one in the front and one behind—were dragging with the driver and striking him in the face,” he continued. I heard gunshots the next thing I knew, and they quickly drove off. I turned around and noticed that the driver had been shot and shoved out of the car. Thus, when I and a few other onlookers noticed that it was a Bolt driver claiming that they had shot him in the leg and stolen his car, we did as well.

“There was blood all over him and he was bleeding.” He was so sent urgently to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital in order to receive care.
He stated that immediately after the gunshot was heard, a few people from the adjourning streets who were still outside took to their heels.

When contained, the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said she would find out from the Divisional Police Officer and get back to our correspondent.

Iringe-Koko, a superintendent of police, had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report on Wednesday evening.
