Political Tensions Rise as APC, Labour Party Dispute Otti’s 2027 Chances

Sam Nkire, the founding leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Abia State Caucus, has urged Governor Alex Otti to defect from the Labour Party (LP) and join the APC in order to increase his chances of winning reelection in 2027.
Nkire reportedly reaffirmed the counsel that Senate President Godswill Akpabio had first offered over the weekend, stressing that Otti ought to give the change careful thought.
Remember how Akpabio made the call after attending Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s 70th birthday celebration in the capital of Abia State, Umuahia?

Best wishes, Governor. Although I have already begun to view your work, your membership in the Labour Party prevents me from standing here and praising you. You are still working, then. By then, you will hear what I have to say when you visit APC. I’ll tell you how much I appreciate you. “You will be celebrated,” Akpabio said.
Nkire responded to Akpabio’s assertion by claiming that the Labour Party of 2023 would change by 2027.

“To win with LP, let alone with any party other than APC, Dr. Alex Otti would have to put in a lot of extra effort,” he said.

Nkire added that Akpabio was not the first well-known APC leader to make the invitation, implying that President Bola Tinubu may do so shortly.

Emmanuel Otti, the chairman of the Abia State LP, however, rejected the calls for Otti to leave, saying, “This is his modest opinion.” There is no water in it.

Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary for the LP, reaffirmed Otti’s dedication to the party in an interview on Sunday, stating that he has no plans to leave.

Politicians are permitted to court other people in the political sphere. The APC is not the only party attempting to win Governor Alex Otti over. He has promised us that he is not leaving the Labour Party, though, according to the last time I checked,” Ifoh said.

He also highlighted the accomplishments of the LP and contrasted them with the alleged shortcomings of states led by the APC.

People’s continued interest in him indicates that the LP philosophy he represents is one that should be emulated. Our LP state is demonstrating a strong commitment to infrastructure, empowerment, and human development, while the majority of APC states have failed miserably. We think the Labour Party is the best option for Nigerians because of this,” Obiorah continued.
