Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has arrived in Milan, Italy, in advance of a number of formal meetings, one of which is a planned meeting with Attilio Fontana, President of the Lombardy Region, on Thursday.
Wike’s arrival was confirmed in a statement released Wednesday from Milan by the delegation’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
The Minister left Abuja on Tuesday night, according to Olayinka, and arrived in Milan on Wednesday at around 4:30 a.m. Nigerian time. Ambassador Mustapha Mohammed, the Charge d’Affaires at the Nigerian Embassy in Italy, met him there.
Olayinka said, “The FCT Minister will meet with agribusiness investors and have talks with the President of Lombardy Region on Thursday while in Milan.”
Home to almost 10 million people, Lombardy is the main economic center of Italy. In terms of nominal GDP, it is the second most populous region in the European Union (EU) and the second most populous region overall.

Exploring strategic development partnerships between the FCT and the Lombardy Region, as well as possible agricultural and vocational education collaborations, will be the main topics of the discussion with Fontana.
To investigate fresh prospects for educational and economic advancement, Wike will also meet with specialists in vocational training and agriculture investors.
The Minister is traveling with the following people: Barrister Benedict Daudu, Senior Special Assistant on Legal and Multi-Lateral Cooperation; Dr. Udo Samuel Atang, Senior Special Assistant on Administration; Lawan Geidam, Mandate Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development; and Dr. Danlami Hayyo, FCT Mandate Secretary for Education.
In addition to discussing potential opportunities for cooperation and strategic development partners with the Lombardy Region, the FCT Minister’s meeting with Attilio Fontana will focus on assessing potential opportunities in the fields of agriculture and vocational education.
After that, Wike will meet with agriculture investors and vocational training specialists in an effort to open up new chances.
According to Olayinka, the Minister was accompanied on the trip by the FCT Mandate Secretaries for Education (Dr. Danlami Hayyo) and Agriculture and Rural Development (Mr. Lawan Geidam), as well as the Senior Special Assistant on Administration (Dr. Udo Samuel Atang) and Legal and Multi-Lateral Cooperation (Barrister Benedict Daudu).
