The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practises and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have been ordered by an Abuja Federal High Court to stop detaining former Zamfara State Governor Abdul’aziz Yari pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
The court also ordered that the senator-elect not be detained by the Department of State Services (DSS).
On Monday, Justice Donatus Okorowo issued the order in a ruling on an ex-parte motion.
The judge ordered the respondents (EFCC, ICPC, and DSS) to show cause why the motion ex-parte prayers should not be granted on the next adjourned date.
“The respondents were, however, restrained from detaining the applicant until the return date for the order to show cause,” he ruled.
The case was rescheduled for June 8 for the respondents to show cause.

In an expert motion, the former governor of Zamfara asked the court for an order prohibiting the EFCC, ICPC, and DSS from arresting him, which would prevent him from participating in the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s proclamation of the 10th Senate on June 13.
Yari, who stated that he wishes to run for President of the Senate, claimed that some members of his political party, the All Progressives Congress, are harassing and threatening to arrest him on fabricated charges in the run-up to the first sitting of the Senate, when nominations and elections of presiding officers will be held.
