In good fortune, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has received the Supreme Court’s verdict and affirmation of Governor Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the governorship election on July 16, 2022.
However, the party admitted that the court’s decision was painful. It did, however, assure the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the incumbent government that they would meet in the trenches when the time was right under the law.
According to reports, the APC stated this in a communique issued on Tuesday, May 9, by Tajudeen Lawal, the acting Chairman of the party in Osun state.
“Even though we are not happy with the judicial decision,” Lawal said in Osogbo, the state capital, “the Supreme Court decisions were final, which could not be challenged in any other court of the land.”
According to him, the party could not fault the Supreme Court’s decision as the highest court in the land because it was a democratic political body that solely believed in the rule of law.
“While we congratulate the recipient of the judgment, we take the bold step of stating that we will not be found wanting in our expected opposition roles to keep the government on its toes.”
“Our party’s members and supporters should not be disheartened by the state’s current political situation because the nature of politics is that one does not always win.”

“The current situation of the winner(s) of today does not make him the perpetual winner, because the political office that was contested for is a tenured one for four years, after which we will have the opportunity to slug it out with those who are celebrating today’s victory.”
“It is worth noting, however, that our party and our candidate, former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, may have lost the election as the highest court of the land ruled, but it is clear to the court of public opinion that they never lost the battle.”
“Because Osun State is a common patrimony, we are assuring the PDP and the government that we will meet in the trenches when the time is constitutionally ripe,” Lawal said.
The party chieftain stated that the APC’s strategy for Osun would be communicated to esteemed members and supporters as soon as possible.
According to reports, a five-member Supreme Court panel upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which had affirmed Adeleke’s victory on March 24.
The Osun tribunal declared Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress the valid winner of the poll on Jan. 27 after the Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Adeleke the winner.
