The Akwa Ibom State branch of the African Action Congress, AAC, has rejected four sacks of rice that it claims were provided to it by the Federal Government as a consolation prize for the painful economic effects of subsidy removal.
Elder Utip Etiebiet, the state AAC chairman, claimed the palliative arrangement was designed “to mock and manipulate the intelligence of Nigerians.”
Etiebet bemoaned the fact that the palliative was politicised and distributed along political party lines in the state.
Etiebet stated in Uyo, the state capital, that the party returned its share of four sacks of rice obtained from the state government through the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, which distributed the relief items.
Etiebet stated that a letter to that effect has been sent to IPAC.
“Following the stand of my party, the African Action Congress, AAC, that the palliative by the Federal Government of Nigeria is a ruse, deceitful, and dubious way of acting on the intelligence of Nigerians, we hereby reject the rice offer of four bags that was made to the party,” Etiebet said.
“AAC is not a refugee camp, and we have never behaved in such a way that four bags of rice were sent to the office.” Because AAC is not a refugee camp, our members have unanimously stated that they do not need to rely on palliative care.”
