Nine members of the “Yan Ba Beli” local vigilante group in Bauchi were killed by gunmen who attacked them.
According to information obtained, the attack took place in Gamji village while the vigilantes were pursuing bandits who had been frightening locals in the state’s Ningi Loval Government Area.
It was reported that the gunmen set up an ambush for the vigilantes, killing nine of them and injuring a few more.
Our correspondent was informed by an anonymous group member that the incident occurred late on Sunday night while Yan Ba Beli members were searching for the bandits by scaling the rocks surrounding Gamji village.
“The bandits overpowered the Yan Ba Beli and opened fire with superior weapons as soon as we entered the ambush, killing nine of us instantly and injuring others,” the speaker stated.
After confirming the incident, Ibrahim Mato, the Caretaker Chairman of Ningi LGA, denounced it and vowed that the government would keep up its efforts to safeguard the lives and property of the local populace.
According to information obtained by our correspondent, the nine corpses were found on Monday and interred at the scene the same day in accordance with Islamic customs.
