Francis Alabi, a 26-year-old bartender, was given a 10-month prison sentence by a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna State on Thursday for stealing N250,000 from his workplace.
Alabi entered a guilty plea to the accusations, and the magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced him to 10 months in prison without the possibility of a fine.
According to Emmanuel, the penalty would discourage others.
Alabi, a Kaduna local who lives in Ungwan Pama, was accused of stealing and betraying others.
Inspector Chidi Leo, the prosecution, had earlier informed the court that Alabi, a bartender at Barnawa’s Freedom Bar, had stolen the money from James Adebiyi, his employer, on January 5.
The prosecutor went on to say that the defendant was unable to provide a convincing account of his actions about the money.
He pointed out that the offense was against the 2017 Kaduna State Penal Code, Sections 344 and 217.
