FCT, Abuja – On August 23, the siblings of Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s suspended governor, George and Okanta, filed a combined lawsuit, which the federal high court in Abuja dismissed. According to The Nation, George and Okanta sued the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
The Emefieles’ decision to drop their lawsuit was a factor in Justice E Okpe of the Abuja Federal High Court’s ruling.

The Emefiele siblings sued the DSS and the AGF for what they said was a violation of their basic human rights. Their choice was predicated on reports of problems involving the controversial and suspended CBN governor.

The AGF and the DSS did not speak against the suit’s withdrawal at the court on Thursday morning. Emefiele has been in the DSS’s custody ever since President Bola Tinubu suspended him. He had previously faced legal charges for gun ownership, but the government later dropped those charges and filed a new N6.9 billion lawsuit against him. When Emefiele was in government, he implemented the naira redesign programme, which had a disastrous impact on the economy and left many Nigerians stuck. This happened as a result of the fact that many people were unable to access their money, many small-business owners couldn’t make ends meet, and others even passed away from medical debt.
