The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR, has asked the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, to arrest Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti, who was shown in a viral video beating a police officer in uniform.
According to sources, the IGP has also ordered a thorough and swift inquiry into the event to uncover the underlying reason of the assault in a statement made by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
According to the statement, the suspect will be prosecuted based on the investigation’s results.

IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR, has directed the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, to arrest Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti, who was caught on film beating a police officer in uniform.
The IGP has also ordered a prompt and thorough inquiry into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault, as well as prosecution of the culprit.
IGP Usman Alkali Baba tells Nigerians that actions of contempt/disdain for symbols of power will not be tolerated, and violators would be brought to justice.

In response to the incident, which sparked outrage on social media, Seun Kuti took to Instagram on Saturday to explain what transpired. He said the officer tried to hurt him and his family, but the officer has subsequently apologized and been forgiven.

Kuti also warned individuals who accused him of seeking attention to stop doing so in order to keep the police officer’s employment.
“He tried to kill me and my family,” he said. I have proof, but I’m not looking for attention. He has apologized, and I have agreed not to file charges against him. Please mind your own business and make certain that the unfortunate man does not lose his job.” [sic]
