Breaking: Youths in Lagos set police statio ablaze

In a purported display of rage, a group of youths stormed a police station in Olayiwola Close in the Oregun area of Ikeja, Lagos State, early this morning.

According to reports, the assailants then set fire to the police station, injuring a police officer on duty.

The motive for the attack is currently unknown.

According to reports, the injured officer, who suffered a head injury, was immediately rushed to an emergency centre at the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway to receive immediate medical attention.

Officials from the Lagos State Fire Service were quickly contacted and mobilized to the scene to help contain the situation. The fire was eventually put out, but the police station building was damaged.

Thankfully, no weapons were reported stolen as a result of the incident.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police, confirmed the attack and stated that an investigation had been launched into the incident.

He also stated that “no suspect has been arrested” at this time.

In a related incident, two suspected Yoruba Nation members were apprehended on Sunday during an attempt to take over the Alausa Police Station in Ikeja.

Around 15 agitators entered the premises and began filming themselves while chanting slogans such as “No more Nigeria police again” and “Yoruba Nation has taken over in Yoruba land.”

As the situation worsened, some of the facility’s police officers were attacked. In response, police reinforcements arrived quickly and arrested two agitators while others escaped.

Charms, cutlasses, and insignia associated with their group were discovered on the arrested individuals.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin emphasised that the police would continue to investigate both incidents with the goal of apprehending the perpetrators.
