The loss of numerous soldiers slain in an ambush and subsequent chopper accident in Niger State has drawn sympathy from former president Muhammadu Buhari.
The Defence Headquarters reports that both ambush attacks and an evacuation chopper crash resulted in the deaths of 36 officers.
President Bola Tinubu received a message from Buhari on Saturday from his spokesman, Garba Shehu, expressing his sorrow over the incident.
“Following the horrible ambush in which we lost our courageous army people, I’m grieved by the helicopter tragedy. My condolences go out to the departed families. I’m hoping the injured get better as soon as possible.
“The President, @officialABAT, the Armed Forces of the Federation, and the families of the deceased have my sincere condolences.
The previous President claimed, “With the soldier-discipline in our forces, it is only a matter of time before they overcome.”
