Major General Christopher Musa, the chief of the military staff, has expressed regret over the delay in the criminal trials of suspects turned over to civil authorities.
Approximately 2000 suspected Boko Haram terrorists who had been detained by security forces remained untried.
The lengthy duration of criminal proceedings, in Musa’s opinion, was complicating military operations.
When the governor of Kaduna state, Uba Sani, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja, according to a statement by the director of defence information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Musa said this.
“The CDS noted that one of the challenges facing the Military in the performance of its duties is the administrative bottlenecks involved in the disbursement of judicial cases involving criminals handed over to the civil authority for prosecution,” the statement said in part.
Musa was also reported as saying that the Nigerian Armed Forces intended to review their operational procedures.
He also promised that military operations, both kinetic and non-kinetic, would be strengthened to fight national insecurity.
“Major General Musa reaffirmed to the governor the AFN’s commitment to helping Kaduna state and all of Nigeria combat insecurity.
The Defence Chief stated that the AFN is considering reviewing its operational modalities in order to improve capabilities for a better outcome. In order to intensify the fight against crime in the nation, he added that both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to our operations would be strengthened.
Gusau reported that Musa emphasised the necessity of youth participation in worthwhile activities in order to lower crime nationwide.
Speaking, the Governor thanked the Nigerian Armed Forces for their tremendous assistance to the state while urging more assistance to increase security in Kaduna and its surroundings.
Kaduna State, the hub of Northern Nigeria, needs some degree of peace and harmony to thrive, according to Governor Uba Sani.
He continued by saying that the state is ready to provide the AFN with local intelligence and other essential resources so that the military can carry out its constitutional duties unimpeded.
