The National Democratic Coalition was forewarned by the All Progressives Congress chapter in the United States on Sunday night not to proceed with its scheduled press conference regarding the controversy surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s academic certificate from Chicago State University, citing the university’s confirmation of its authenticity.

The threat comes two days after NADECO USA’s Publicity Secretary, David Adenekan, declared that the organization will host a global news conference inside Chicago City Hall on Monday at 9:45 a.m.

Adenekan went on to say that the goal was to provide the press and the world at large a chance to raise inquiries that would adequately look into and throw more light on the President’s purportedly faked CSU certificate.

In response, APC USA Chairman Prof. Tai Balofin denounced the action in a statement on Sunday night, calling it a smokescreen to demonize the president.
Balofin said that it was improper for NADECO USA, which he called a bogus organization, to be seen discussing a topic that is already in court, even if he claimed that Tinubu’s alma school had settled the dispute.
“The claim regarding President Tinubu’s educational certificate from Chicago State University has been addressed, and CSU has confirmed the authenticity of the certificate,” he stated. It is important to remember that this issue is already under the jurisdiction of the proper authorities, namely the courts, where the law will be obeyed and due process will be observed.

“Therefore, we implore the supporters of Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party to hold off until the Supreme Court’s decision is made.”Moreover, we would like to make it clear that the organization hosting this World Press Conference under the auspices of NADECO USA is not the same NADECO of which President Tinubu was a member in the Abacha administration. We implore the people not to fall for these attempts at historical revisionism. In addition to harming the public, hasty and baseless accusations run the risk of drawing attention away from urgent problems that actually demand investigation.

“To sum up, the APC USA leadership is adamantly opposed to any efforts made to damage President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s and, consequently, Nigeria’s, reputation. We have faith that the democratic procedures and the legal system are strong enough to handle any justified worries.

“We are steadfast in our adherence to democratic ideals, and we urge this group operating under NADECO USA to have a constructive conversation while we wait for the legal system to resolve any legitimate issues.”
