In a recent development, the Coalition of Civil Society Election Observers (CCSEO) has come forward to commend the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) for its exemplary professionalism during the 2023 elections, with particular reference to NSCDC’s outstanding performance and the absence of any recorded cases of involvement in election malpractice or human rights violations.
In a press release signed and made available to journalists in Abuja over the weekend, Rev. Solomon Semaka who is the National Coordinator of CCSEO, described the conduct of the NSCDC in the 2023 elections as a model and template for other security organisations to replicate.
“The commendation from the international election observer groups including the EU and AU in their post-election reports echoes our sentiments and serves as a testament to the NSCDC’s dedication to upholding the principles of fair elections and human rights. The absence of any reported cases of election malpractice and human rights violations attributed to the NSCDC demonstrates their commitment to upholding the principles of a free and fair electoral process in Nigeria”, the statement noted.
The CCSEO expressed its gratitude to the NSCDC under the able leadership of Mr. Abubakar Ahmed Audi for instilling discipline within the service, which has set a positive example for other security agencies and confirmed the organisation as the torchbearer of hardcore civil engagement and security in the country.
According to the
statement, “the fact that international election observer groups have passed a vote of confidence on the professional conduct of the NSCDC is an encouraging sign for the country. It shows that the various trainings and workshops the NSCDC has been organising and also sending its personnel to attend both locally and internationally have yielded fruits. Without over flogging the matter, we make bold to say that other security agencies too should follow suit and give task payers value for their money”.
Additionally, the CCSEO highlighted the NSCDC’s pivotal role in restoring civil-military relationships within the nation, adding that, “the NSCDC’s dedication to professionalism and adherence to human rights principles has helped bridge the gap between the military and civilian populations, fostering a more harmonious and collaborative environment”.
Drawing attention to the NSCDC’s exceptional performance, the CCSEO urged the international human rights commission to honour the Service for its remarkable achievements and exemplary conduct. “By recognising and celebrating the NSCDC’s efforts, other security agencies will be inspired to raise their standards and become more vigilant in ensuring the protection of human rights in their operations”
The Coalition finally called upon the Commandant-General (CG) of the NSCDC, Mr. Abubakar Audi to remain focused and continue justifying the trust placed in him by Mr. President, stating further that the CG’s sterling performance in office especially his professionalism and dedication has not gone unnoticed.
“By standing for what is right and protecting our values and the constitution, Nigerians are proud of the Corps. It is our hope that Mr. President will continue to give you all the necessary support needed to excel in the clear-cut roadmap of revamping and restoring the NSCDC to its rightful place and above sister agencies. Once again, we urge men and women of the Corps to remain focused and continue justifying the trust placed in them by Nigerians .
“Indeed the patriotic zeal of the leadership of the NSCDC is inspiring and the contributions to the progress and development of Nigeria remain legendary”, the statement concluded
