Idris Ahmed Wase, the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, has made it known that he will not drop out of the running for speaker of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly.
The job has been assigned to the North West geopolitical zone by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), while the deputy position has been assigned to the Southeast.
Wase claimed that the constitution does not recognize zoning in a statement to State House reporters after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Additionally, he contended that the APC’s zoning plan did not uphold the Constitution’s guarantee of the federal character of the federal government.
Wase emphasized that the National Working Committee (NWC) letter, which described the zoning as advisory, also permitted for continuous debate on the subject.
“I am running this race, and by God’s grace, I shall win. Wase insisted that she had not retracted or resigned for anyone.
He highlighted Section 14(4) of the Nigerian Constitution, which specifies that the makeup of the Government of the Federation and its institutions must reflect Nigeria’s federal structure.

Wase claims that the purpose of this clause is to uphold the unity of the country, avoid the domination of people from particular states or ethnic groups, and foster loyalty and peace within the country.
Wase emphasized the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria and the fact that there are currently six presiding officers in the government to highlight the value of varied leadership.
He stated that ignoring the deputy speaker position for his zone would not only violate the constitutional idea of federal character but also neglect the substantial support and votes his region had given the government.
Wase asserted, “I’m not just talking for myself.
“You can give us the deputy speaker position but not the deputy senate president position. Despite the fact that we have given the government one of the best results in terms of voting, you cannot ignore us, he said.
