Ondo State Police Command nabbed a driver who killed a policeman at a checkpoint on the Benin-Owo Expressway in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area, on Sunday.
The motorist, whose name was unknown, allegedly hit an Assistant Superintendent of Police and was apprehended by the Nigeria Army at Sobe in Edo State.
The command denied that the highway kidnappers killed the cop.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, verified the officer’s death as a hit-and-run.
She stated, “A suspicious vehicle, when the police were trying to halt the driver, didn’t stop. Our officers were warned on the highway, but the car veered and killed an ASP near Ifon.
“The driver was pursued and fortunately for us, the military men at Sobe in Edo State caught him.”
A 53-second viral video revealed the event and the deceased on the road. His colleagues took his lifeless body into a roadside police wagon with a head injury.
