In spite of complaints from the All Progressives Congress (APC) demanding for a cancellation of the Saturday election due to allegations of irregularities and significant rigging, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has swore in newly elected chairmen of the 18 local government areas.
Obaseki, who spoke at the swearing-in ceremony on Monday in Benin City, said he had faith in the “ability of the elected chairmen to collaborate with the state government to bring good governance to the people” and that they had been carefully chosen by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and elected by the people.
He urged the new chairmen to concentrate on advancing their regions and preserving the environment, and he said that his administration will build alternate routes in areas where the federal roads had deteriorated.
The fact that Edo lies in the middle of the nation and thus connected to many routes owned by the federal government is what is affecting Edo the most in the current economic crisis. As you are aware, the Federal Government is unable to manage itself, let alone rebuild its highways, therefore it may be some time before they can do it, if they can do it at all.
We have other links, therefore our top goal with you should be to develop alternative state highways and collaborate with the state government to create them, he said.
