Abdurasheed Bawa, the immediate-past Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been released after being detained for five months.
According to Probitasnews, the former anti-corruption czar was released on Wednesday night.

Remember that Bawa was detained by the Department of State Service (DSS) on June 14, 2023, only hours after President Bola Tinubu suspended him from his position as EFCC Chairman for alleged abuse of office.

Since his arrest and confinement, the secret police have not formally preferred any accusation against him or specified the nature of his offense.

Meanwhile, Tinubu appointed Olanipekun Olukoyede as Chairman of the EFCC on October 12.

On October 18, 2023, the Senate ratified Olukoyede’s appointment.
