EFCC Honours Slain Officer, Names Administrative Block After Him

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has honoured its fallen officer, Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, ASE 1 Aminu Sahabi Salisu, by naming the administrative block of its Academy in Karu, Abuja, after him. The announcement was made during the Annual Rewards and Recognition Ceremony held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, and was led by the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede.

Honouring a Gallant Officer
The EFCC mourned the loss of Salisu, who tragically lost his life while performing his duties in service to the nation. Mr. Olukoyede, reflecting on the sacrifice made by Salisu, stated that the officer’s bravery and commitment to the Commission’s mission would not be forgotten. “We are saddened by the loss of our officer while on official assignment. He was a gallant officer, and to this effect, the administrative block of the Academy is hereby named after him,” Olukoyede remarked. The decision to name the administrative block after Salisu serves as a lasting tribute to his memory and underscores the agency’s appreciation for the sacrifices made by its officers in the pursuit of justice. Recognising Excellence and Promoting Integrity
The ceremony also celebrated the accomplishments of 36 officers who were honoured for their outstanding contributions in various categories. The awards covered areas such as the section with the highest recovery, the section with the highest conviction, and the lawyer with the highest conviction. Additional categories recognized the best departmental staff, the best zonal directorate, and the staff of the year.

While congratulating the awardees, Mr. Olukoyede emphasized the importance of consistently striving for excellence. He encouraged the recipients to maintain their high standards of work and commitment, reminding them that excellence is not a one-off achievement but a continuous effort. “Excellence is not about doing things right once in a while; it is about doing things right all the time. You need to continue to offer the best as the reward for hard work is more work,” Olukoyede stated.

In addition to the awards, Olukoyede announced the promotion of 900 staff members, acknowledging their dedication and hard work. He also revealed the reinstatement of life and property insurance for EFCC staff, highlighting the Commission’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of its officers.

Maintaining Core Values and Integrity
As part of his address, Mr. Olukoyede also stressed the importance of upholding the EFCC’s core values, particularly the Commission’s unwavering commitment to integrity. He warned that no officer would be spared in the ongoing internal cleansing process aimed at ensuring that the EFCC operates with the highest ethical standards. “The internal cleansing within the Commission will spare no one,” Olukoyede remarked, underscoring the seriousness of the Commission’s commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability.

Celebrating Outstanding Achievements
Among the standout awardees was Chief Superintendent of the EFCC, CSE Alvan Gurumnaan, who was named Staff of the Year for his exceptional contributions. Additionally, the Sokoto Zonal Directorate was recognised as the Best Directorate of the Year, a testament to the collective effort of the team in achieving significant milestones.

Other notable awardees included Bitrus Yakubu, Katmi Kefas, Halilu Dauda, Nenman Danladi, Oluwakemi Aaron, Yusuf Umar, Michael Adukwu Uchechika, and David Solomon. These individuals were celebrated for their exceptional performance and dedication to the mission of the EFCC.
