On Saturday, the Federal Government debunks a widely circulated report that Mohammed Usman, the nation’s ambassador to the Republic of Niger, had been expelled.

Francisca Omayuli, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokesperson, pleaded with the people to ignore such misinformation in a statement that was signed by her.

“The attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been called to rumors making the rounds on social media that the Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Niger, H. E. Mohammed Usman, was on Friday, August 25, 2023, expelled and given 48 hours to depart the country,” said the statement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wants to let everyone know that this information is untrue and should be ignored.

The Federal Government of Nigeria issues a strong warning against the spread of unreliable information that could jeopardize the current ECOWAS attempts to mediate the political impasse in Niger.
