Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf said on Monday that his predecessor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, left a N240 billion debt.
Kabir Yusuf, also known as Abba Gida-Gida, spoke at Government House Kano’s Ante Chamber shortly after Alhaji Usman Alhaji, the former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), handed over the documents on behalf of his former principal, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
“My administration will certainly look at this high debt profile, how Ganduje acquired them, and what was used for,” said Kabir Yusuf, who was visibly piqued by the summary of what he saw.

Abba Gida-Gida, who was accompanied to the official handing over ceremony at Government House by the Chairman of the NNPP Transition Committee, Dr Baffa Bichi, Ganduje’s former Deputy, Professor Hafiz Abubakar, Alhaji Salisu Yahaya Hotoro, and hundreds of red cap wearing supporters.
Following the brief ceremony, Yusuf moved in convoy to Sani Abacha Stadium, where he was sworn in by Kano Chief Judge in front of hundreds of supporters.
