The new Accountant General of the Federation is Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, who was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
His appointment will go into effect on March 7, 2025, which is also the day Oluwatoyin Madehin, the current Accountant General, is scheduled to retire.
Madehin’s successor, Ogunjimi, 57, was initially announced in December 2024. His final confirmation, however, followed a competitive, merit-based selection process that involved top Federal Civil Service officials. An oral interview, an ICT proficiency test, and a written exam were the three ways the selection committee evaluated applicants. President Tinubu’s dedication to guaranteeing openness, quality, and proficiency in important government appointments is reflected in this procedure, the Presidency claims.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga also said in the statement: “Ogunjimi earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1990. The University of Lagos also awarded him a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria both count him as a fellow.
“President Tinubu congratulates Ogunjimi on his appointment and exhorts him to carry out his responsibilities professionally, honorably, and with a commitment to Nigeria’s service.”
